SAFETY & SECURITY AT LODGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
CLOSURE OF SCHOOL GATES DURING SCHOOL HOURS EFFECTIVE 27 AUGUST 2012
1. AUTHORITY CONCERNED
1.1 Reference is made to the Director’s Circular No. 01/DIR/12 dated 3 January 2012.
1.2 A circular given to parents when your child is offered a place at Lodge.
1.3 Reference is also made to a meeting of staff members with Board Members from International School representing all parents at the school last month. One of the outcomes of the dialogue session is the above issue.
1.4 The issue was also brought up during the Board of Management meeting in July and it has approved to close the gate during school hours effective 27 August 2012 ie upon the reopening of school after the school break.
1.5 Gates will be opened during arrival and dismissal time only.
1.6 Please purchase a security pass from the office for entry during school hours.
2. REASON FOR ENFORCEMENT
2.1 Security of our children is of paramount importance.
2.2 The population of the school has grown to an extent that teachers are not able to recognize all parents and your representatives.
2.3 Parking space has also become a major problem.
2.4 We wish to assure parents that the welfare of your child is not compromised by not being able to join them during lunch. This is because there are already teachers and teaching assistants who will ensure that they take their lunch.
2.5 We urged parents also to help us inculcate a sense of independence and responsibility among the students as part of their growing up and education process. Do give your child that confidence and trust in them to solve their own simple problem. Being over protective will only delay the rate of maturity of a child.
3. STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO FACILITATE PARENTS & THE SCHOOL TO WORK TOGETHER TO ENSURE A SAFE & CONDUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR LEARNING
3.1 School gates will be closed to cars during school hours. Parents may enter the school via the main entrance along Lorong Keranji.
3.2 A security pass should be worn at all times and shown to the guard before entering the school compound.
3.3 If parents wish to meet a member of staff please make an appointment through the office.
3.4 If parents need to see their child please come to the office, then the child will be sent for.
3.5 If parents wish to provide school lunch for their child, they can drop the lunch off on the table provided in the foyer/office before 11.30 am. Please ensure that the lunch is clearly labeled [name & class].
3.6 Parents are not allowed to sit in the school canteen at lunch time. Teachers and teaching assistants are present to supervise the children.
3.7 Finally, the rear car park gates will be shut after 5.15 pm. Children who are still in the school after this time will need to be picked up from the foyer. This is because the school is unable to monitor children at the rear of the school after 5.00 pm as all of the teaching staff have left the premises by this time.
May I take this opportunity to thank all parents for your support of this measure. Sometime, change is difficult to accept but I urged all parents to give this a chance to work and hope that we do not have parents coming in with tempers on this issue.
