Director's Circular to Parents -February 2015

Thu, 5 Feb 2015

Dear Parents,

1.            Introduction

The new school year started 1 week later than scheduled because of serious flooding in Peninsular Malaysia. For your information, the school calendar will have no changes as we are instructed by the Ministry of Education to record school session starting from week 2 (12th January 2015- 16th January 2015). This is done to standardise teachers’ yearly plan and assessment time especially the implementation of School Based Assessment (PBS).

2.            Student’s Leaving School Compound During School Hours

With your children’s safety being our primary concern, the school has implemented the One Card System which will help to monitor and record students’ movement during school hours Whenever there is a need for them to leave the school compound during school hours for whatever reason, they need to account for their absence from the school. We seek your co-operation to ensure that your children’s safety is taken care of.

3.            School Sports Day 2015

Lodge Group of Schools Sports Day 2015 will be held on the 8th February, 2015 at the SMK Tabuan Jaya Sports Complex. We strongly encourage your presence to support your children during the Sports Day. Staff and students will be given a day off on the 9th February.

4.            Chinese New Year Holidays

In conjunction with the Chinese New Year holidays on the 19th February 2015 and the 20th February 2015, the school is taking two additional occasional holidays on 17th February 2015 and 18th February 2015. The schools will be closed from 17th February 2015(Tuesday) to 22nd February 2015(Sunday).  On behalf of Lodge Group of Schools, I wish all parents, staff and students a very prosperous Chinese New Year (Year of the Goat).

5.            Staff and Students’ Electronic Pass for all Entities

All staff and students of Lodge Group of Schools will be given an electronic security card. The card (including a lanyard and card holder) costs RM10.00. However we are still in the process of staff and students photo-taking. Once they are ready, we will implement electronic attendance taking of staff and students in order to save time and roll call. The security card will also function as a library card and student ID card.

6.            ICT Needs and Infrastructure For Lodge Group of Schools

Lodge Group of Schools plans to upgrade the ICT infrastructure to meet the needs of teaching your children 21st century skills. Currently, we have a simple network system with internet access for administrative purposes. We are not able to provide on-line learning and ICT integrated learning for your children yet as we have low bandwidth internet access. The school invites parents or alumni with related knowledge or capabilities to come forward and assist the school in this matter.

7.            Compulsory Pass in UPSR BM and English Language for Admission to Form 1 starting 2018

The Board of Management at its monthly meeting on 8th January 2015 decided that commencing 2018, Lodge National Secondary School will only admit Lodgians who have a pass in both UPSR Bahasa Melayu and English Language.  This is to ensure that they can cope with the subject requirements in Secondary School which requires them to pass Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah and English Language in the SPM Examination starting 2016.

8.            Lunch Depository and Drive Through Service

To reduce traffic congestion prior to lunch break, the National Secondary School ancillary staff is providing a drive-through service for parents sending lunch to their children. The service started on the 16th January 2015. It will trial run for a month to gauge parents’ response. We will extend this service to the other entities upon positive feedback.  Therefore, we request all parents to tag all lunch boxes/containers clearly so that your children can pick up the correct items. We do not encourage the children to bring their lunches to class as it will create other issues in the classrooms. We also strongly discourage parents to supervise their children’s lunch in the canteen due to limited space.

9.            Punctuality and Safety of Students

We would like to thank parents who have been co-operating well to make sure that your children arrive punctually to school. We would like to draw your attention to the new pedestrian crossing at the National Primary and Secondary School. Please keep clear of the pedestrian crossing whenever you stop your car for your children to alight. Please cooperate to ensure the safety of your children.

10.              IGCSE  and Cambridge International AS Level 2014 Results

Lodge International School is extremely proud to announce that we have achieved our BEST IGCSE RESULTS since our inception in 2002. Not only have our students achieved 100% passes in 13 IGCSE subjects, the number of straight A/A* scorers have doubled to 16 students, which is close to 30% of the 2014 graduating cohort. Congratulations to parents and teachers as well as students of the 2014 cohort for this outstanding result. We also received good news regarding the 2014 Cambridge International AS Level examinations. This significantly larger cohort had recorded a 96.3% pass rate for 9 AS Level subjects ranging from Mathematics, Sciences, and the Humanities.
