1. STAFF MATTERS
1.1 Appointment of National Secondary School Headmaster
Mr. Thomas Huo Kok Sen has been appointed as Headmaster for Lodge National Secondary School effective 1st October, 2014. Prior to his appointment he had served as a school principal in many Government Secondary Schools, and had also served in the Education Department for many years.
1.2 Upgrading of Laboratory Attendant to Laboratory Assistant and appointment of new Laboratory Attendant for International School
Due to the expected increase in the number of students at A-Levels in 2015, and thus the increase in work-load in the laboratory, the School has appointed a new Laboratory Attendant, Ms Dolly ak. Nyaon, at International School effective 8th October, 2014. Ms Justina Te-eng, the present Laboratory Attendant, has been upgraded to the post of Laboratory Assistant on the same date.
1.3 Mr Ahmad Amirrul bin Bakri has been appointed as a security guard effective 8th October, 2014, replacing Mr Zabri bin Subhan who has resigned.
2. PT3 – FORM 3 ASSESSMENT
Form 3 Assessment (PT3) will start on 13th October and end on 16th October 2014. Parents are kindly reminded to ensure that their children:
2.1 arrive in school by 7:15am each morning
2.2 bring their MyKad or IC to school for identification purposes
2.3 have a good breakfast and also bring along some snacks as the second paper for each day ends around 1:00 pm.
2.4 are picked up from school on time so that they can rest and prepare for the next day.
The timetable for PT3 has been given out to all the students involved. It is also available online in the Lodge Information System.
3. RE-SITTINGS OF UPSR
Re-sittings for the following subjects after their leakage were carried out on:
30th September: Science and English
9th October: Mathematics
4. LODGE SCHOOL
INDEMNITY FORM
Please note that the last School Board Meeting (24th September) has approved the following addition (words in italics) to the existing Lodge Indemnity Form (see page 2 of the form) for co-curricular activities:
“I am fully aware that Lodge School and its staff
will take every precaution to ensure the safety and security of my child/ward
during this activity. I herewith agree
to waive any rights to claim any damage or compensation from or take any legal
action against Lodge School or any of its employees, the Lodge School Association
or any of its committee members in the event of an accident or occurrence
resulting in the injury, damage or loss of life of my child/ward and/or his/her
belongings while participating in the said activity save and except for the insurance
coverage for students taken up by my child/ward in Plan 20 or Plan 30
(whichever is applicable) of AIA Student Accident Shield Insurance (24 hours,
worldwide, in school and at home). The
said waiver shall not apply in respect of claims against any third parties who
may be liable for any loss and damage suffered.”
5. CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES
5.1 Young Inventors Challenge organized by the Association of Science, Technology and Innovation on 20th September, 2014.
This Competition was held at Dewan Dr Siti Hasmah, Rumah Puspanita, Kuala Lumpur. 5 out of 7 teams which were selected from Lodge took part in this Grand Finale. Lodge National Secondary students comprising Justin Toh (4C), Bryan Cheong (4C), Darren Wong (4C), Pang Xiu Wen (4C) and Isabel Lea Chew (4B) emerged as the champions, and won RM2000.00, trophies and the Challenge Trophy. Congratulations to the students and thanks to Ms Anita Martin who coached and accompanied them.
5.2 Mighty Minds National Challenge organized by RHB/Star on 26th September, 2014
Three students of Lodge National Secondary School emerged as National Champions in the Mighty Minds National Challenge held at Cititel, Kuala Lumpur, after beating teams from 13 other states. The students, Jerry Tan (5D), Dillon Fong (5D), and Brandon Teo (5D), who were also the State Level champions in the competition held at The Spring on 3rd May, 2014, won RM10,000.00 and a plaque for the school. Congratulations to them and thanks again to their mentor, Ms Anita Martin Mon.
5.3 Kuching Age Group Ping Pong Competition on 5th - 7th September, 2014
Elicia Tsai won the gold medal for Girls Under-13, silver for the Under-15, and bronze for the Under-18; Andrea Tan won gold medals for both the Girls under-15 and the under-18; Clement Sim won the gold medal for the Boys under-18.
5.4 Samarahan Open Ping Pong Competition on 18th - 19th September, 2014
Lodge School won the Silver in the team event.
5.5 Kuching-Samarahan Division Swimming Competition
Carriane Chua Chen Woon won 2 gold medals and 4 silver medals in the Girls 13-14 years category; Celine Yong won 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal in the Girls 13-14 years category; Derrick Ong won 2 bronze medals in the Boys 11-12 years category; Roger Loh won 3 bronze medals; Channel Chan won 1 silver medal, and Marcus Teo won 2 bronze medals.
5.6 Kuching Division Athletics Development Programme on 30th September - 1st October, 2014
Four students won gold medals. They are Shamus Sim for 100 metres (13 years), Dana River Yu for 100 and 200 metres (13 years), Annie Ng for high jump and triple jump (13 years), and Lau Peng Yii for high jump (14 years).
Three students won silver medals. They are Liew Ping Seng for 100 metres and 200 metres (13 years), Jonathan Jee for shot putt (14 years), and Nicole Goh for high jump (11years).
Four students won bronze medals. They are Andon Wong for long jump and high jump (13 years), Shamus Sim for 100 metres (14 years), Abigail Yong for javelin (13 years) and Carriane Chua for shot putt (14 years).
5.7 Sarawak Schools Sports Council Track and Field Competition in Bintulu on 16th – 18th October, 2014
Four students of Lodge have been selected to represent Kuching Division for this competition. They are Shamus Sim Zi Yang (14 years), Dana River Yu (13 years), Annie Ng Mei Yen (13 years) and Liew Pin Sheng (13 years).
6. LODGE ICT INFRASTRUCTURE
The School is in the process of planning for the upgrading of ICT infrastructure and related facilities in a move to upgrade the ICT capability in Lodge both for school and student management, and for teaching and learning. The School hereby seeks the views and contributions from parents/alumni in the form of suggestions/advice and expertise on this matter. 7. CHINESE TUITION
EXAMINATION
The Chinese tuition examination will be held on Saturday, 18th October, following the normal tuition time. Parents are kindly reminded to ensure that their child/children are present for the examination.
