CIRCULAR TO PARENTS – SEPTEMBER 2013

1. PMR EXAMINATIONS
These will be held on Wednesday, 2nd October, Thursday, 3rd, October, Monday 7th October and Tuesday, 8th October, 2013. Each day papers will start at 8.10 am. Two briefings had been conducted by the Principal on Monday, 23rd September, and Friday, 27th September, for the students, to give them encouragement and to make proper preparations for the exams. They were advised about the rules, regulations and warnings pertaining to the examinations. All students are to ensure that they arrive about 30 minutes before each paper starts, that they bring along their Identity Cards, and be dressed in proper uniforms during these exams.
2. ECA/CHINESE TUITION AND EXAMINATION
There will be no ECA/CHINESE TUITION on Saturday, 5th October, 2013. The Mandarin tuition examination will be on Saturday, 19th October.
3. ECA: All ECA will stop from Monday, 14th October to enable students to concentrate on the Final Exams and Public Exams.
4. FINAL EXAMINATIONS FOR NON EXAM CLASSES
For the National School, Final Exams for Forms 1 and 2 will start on Friday, 18th October, and those for Form 4 will start on Wednesday, 16th October, and end on 25th October, 2013. For International School the Exams will be from 21st October until 25th October, 2013.
5. SPM EXAMINATIONS AND SPM STUDY LEAVE
SPM will start on Wednesday, 6th November. Study Leave for Form 5 (National School) will start on Monday, 21st October, 2013. During the Study Leave period, Form 5 students may only use the classrooms if they have registered at the Director’s office and have been given permission to do so. They are strictly reminded to be decently dressed, and to ensure that the classrooms are kept clean.
6. IGCSE AND AS EXAMINATIONS
IGCSE Exams will start on Monday, 7th October, until Tuesday, 19th October.
AS Exams will start on Tuesday, 15th October until Friday, 29th November.
7. EXAMINATION RULES
Please note that all students must sit for all the papers/subjects taken in school. If any student does not sit for any paper without medical reason, the result for that subject will be 'zero' (if it is the only paper). However the student will still be awarded marks for the paper he has sat for (where a subject has more than one paper).
8. CHECKPOINT 6 AND CHECKPOINT 9 TESTS
These will be from Wednesday, 16th October to Friday, 18th October.
9. REPORT CARD DAY FOR IGCSE, AS AND TINGKATAN 5/FORM 5
Report Card Day for IGCSE and AS will be on 4th October, and for Tingkatan 5/Form 5 it will be on 18th October.
10. POST-PMR PROGRAMME
This Programme will start with a briefing for all Form 3 students on Friday, 11th October, 2013. The activities include briefings on Form 4 subjects (16/10 and 17/10), sports (18/10 and 25/10), local visits to factories and Dino Trek 2, and beautification/landscaping projects in the school (21/10-24/10). Some students will also go on a class trip to Kuala Lumpur (29/10-1/11/13).
11. A-LEVEL RESULTS
` 9 students or 35% obtained straight A’s (A* & A) for June 2013 compared to 47% for June, 2012 Exams. Three brilliant students, Baik Seung Ryeol, Lim Jia Jun and Susan Simanjaya obtained 4A*. They have done everyone proud!
12. APPLICATION FOR A-LEVELS
Application for Lodgians for A-Levels Programme is 17th October, after which it will be opened to outside applicants.
13. SCHOOL MAGAZINE
All parents are to required pay RM22.00 for a copy of the School Magazine (for 1st child only) by 8th October, 2013.
14. 4th TERM SCHOOL FEES
The 4th Term school fees are to be paid by 30th September, 2013.
15. STAR-RATING BY MINISTRY OF EDUCATION
We are proud to inform that Lodge National Primary and Lodge National Secondary schools were both awarded “5-STAR” ratings (the highest rating) in a nationwide quality assurance exercise conducted by the Ministry of Education for 2012. Lodge International School obtained a “4-STAR” rating. Thank you to all the students, teachers and parents who have contributed towards the schools’ success.
16. SCHOOL RULES
To ensure students’ safety and avoid any untoward incidents, students are not allowed to leave the school after class to go to the shops nearby. They are to wait inside the school compound until they are picked by their parents.
17. COMPETITIONS
a) The School had recently received news that our students have performed commendably well in the following competitions:
i. the 1st Kangaroo Mathematics Competition Malaysia, which was held on 3rd April, 2013, where 6 students of National Secondary School won silver awards, and 5 students won bronze awards.
ii. The University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (Writing), where 18 students from Form 1 to 5 had participated, and 1 student won High Distinction, and 7 students obtained credits. For the Primary School, 1 student won a Gold Award, 5 students obtained distinction, and 3 students obtained credit.
iii. The Secondary Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Form 5, conducted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in July, 2013, where 1 student achieved credit in Mathematics, 1 student achieved distinction in Physics, 2 students achieved credits in Chemistry, and 3 students achieved distinctions and 3 achieved credits in Biology.
b) School, Inter-School and Sukma Competitions
i) Ping Pong
A form 3 student of National Secondary School, Clement Sim, helped Sarawak Sukma Ping Pong team to win the bronze medal in Sukma Games in July. Andrea Tan emerged champion in the Kuching MSSM Girls Under-15 Ping Pong Competition in July. In the recent Kuching Age Group Ping Pong Competitions held in August, Clement Sim captured both the Boys Under-15 and Under-18 titles; Gabriel Ling captured the silver medal for the Boys Under-15; Derrick Tsai won the title for Boys Under-13; and Godwin Ling won the title for the Boys Under-10.
ii) English and Bahasa Melayu Speech Competitions (School level)
The Junior English Speech Competition was held for Form 1 and 2 students on 18th July, 2013. The best speakers were Sidney Marie Chin (1B) and Lim Shen Kai (2A). The Bahasa Melayu Speech Competition was held for Forms 1, 2 and 4 students on 24th July, 2013. The best speakers were Ting Jiawen (1B), Lim Shen Khai (2A), and Jerry Tan (4D).
18. PARENTS DIRECTLY CONFRONTING STUDENTS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL
There have been cases of parents confronting their children’s classmates over certain misunderstandings in Primary School. While misunderstandings must be solved, parents must not confront the children directly, as this may traumatize them. Parents are advised to adhere to acceptable procedures for such cases. They should consult the class teacher/subject teacher concerned, and if necessary the Headmaster, to settle the issues concerned.
19. SECURITY REMINDER
Please be reminded once again that the Board of Management had approved the following Policy involving National Primary and Secondary Schools canteen: Only parents of children in Primary 3 and below are allowed at the canteen to accompany their children during lunch, but are to give up seats to the students. All parents of children in Primary 4 and above are requested to leave the canteen. Thank you for your understanding.
20. THE “GREATEST LOVE” CONCERT
A packed hall of about 700 parents and children witnessed a very colourful and entertaining concert staged by Lodge Kindergarten on 7th September. It was a night to be remembered by all the parents and children who were present. Thank you to all the children, parents, teachers and staff, and the sponsors.
21. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
Hari Raya Haji (Tuesday, 15th October) and Awal Muharam (Tuesday, 5th November) will be Public holidays.
22. PRIZE GIVING DAY
Prize Giving Day will be on Friday, 15th November, 2013.
23. YEAR END SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Year End School Holidays will start on Saturday, 16th November until 1st January, 2014.
